Horse Mania 2010

Horse Play for Arts Education

The offspring of Lexington's favorite fiberglass horses will lead the Horse Mania herd, hitting the streets of Lexington on July 1st! The 57 foals and horses of Horse Play, created by students in Lexington’s public and private schools, will be on display at the Lexington Public Library’s branches through the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in October.

Horse Play for Arts Education imaginatively combines kids, art and horses to benefit arts programs in the public schools and Lexington's Youth Arts Council. All Fayette County public and private schools were eligible to participate. Elementary and middle schools decorated foals, while high schools worked with full-size horses.   Each school solicited sponsors to defray project costs.

Superintendent Stu Silberman noted, "A hands-on project like Horse Play taps into kids' creativity, opens their minds and encourages them to explore new means of expression."

Horse Play is designed on the same principal as Horse Mania 2010.  The decorated fiberglass horses and foals alike will be proudly displayed throughout the city this summer and fall, and sold at auction on March 5, 2011.  The proceeds from each horse or foal will be split equally between each respective school's art program and Lexington's Youth Arts Council and other arts-in-education programs.
